New Indoor Bike Park Opens In Calgary - B-Line Expands Existing Indoor Sports Facilities

B-Line Indoor Bike Park has just leased 60,000 SF for its new indoor bike park facility at Champion Business Centre in northeast Calgary. The bike park will add much needed indoor recreational supply to the area, and follows the success of the Calgary Central Sportsplex, a 56,000 SF indoor fitness facility, also located at Champion Business Centre.

Also located at Champion Business Centre, Calgary Central Sportsplex has become a destination for active residents in the area. They provide indoor turf, basketball courts and a wide variety of indoor sports options for individuals and leagues. B-Line, when it opens in the fall, will be an indoor, drop-in, instructional biking facility featuring a beginner section, expert jump lines and terrain for all levels. According to B-Line owner, Ryan Greenberg, it will be “like a skill hill, but for bikers where you can come with your friends or your family and spend the day – whether you’re beginning or advanced.”

“We are really excited to welcome B-Line to our development,” says Michael Hungerford, partner at Hungerford Properties. “They complete the vision for Champion to become a busy, thriving indoor sports and fitness mall in a neighborhood that deserves access to these kinds of indoor recreation facilities. We offer upgraded facilities in a premiere location, minutes to Marlborough and Franklin LRT, with easy access downtown. It’s the only indoor facility in the neighbourhood that caters to multiple recreational users.”

Ryan Haney, senior VP at JLL, says Calgary’s vibrant and committed biking culture will welcome B-Line, particularly as a space to practice in the city’s long winters. Haney says indoor bike parks have been successful in other US cities and in Markham, Ontario. But this is the first foray in Western Canada and it will be a good place for both families and individuals to be on bikes all year round.

“This is a significant leasing deal for Calgary and B-Line because it offers a completely new use in the city,” he says. “What we’ve seen is more and more indoor recreation users coming into Calgary. And Hungerford Properties has been very creative with the businesses they partner with and the buildings they purchase. They’ve successfully repositioned this building, creating a destination for indoor soccer, hockey, parkour and other sports.”

Ryan Greenberg spent two years looking for a building big enough to accommodate his needs. “There aren’t many buildings in Calgary with the right zoning and size,” he says. “Champion offered the right size and has so many good features. The neighborhood is also centrally located, near lots of amenities and with the nearby sportsplex, it’s becoming a recreational hub in the north of the city.”

With the announcement of the B-Line leasing deal, the warehouse portion of Champion Business Centre is now fully leased, bringing the total park to 92% leased. There is up to 22,410 SF of office remaining for lease.
